Players Health Acquires Life Benefits Insurance Brokerage

New acquisition will help close major gap in coverage as need for full-time coaches and organization administrators continues to grow.

Players Health today announced the acquisition of Dallas-based brokerage Life Benefits, filling a crucial gap in the lack of quality health coverage amongst coaches and administrators in the youth sports industry. This addition brings important new employer benefit package offerings for youth and amateur sports organizations to the company’s already robust lineup of insurance and risk management solutions.

The need for full-time coaches and administrators continues to grow, with more than 400,000 amateur sports organizations and 45 million children playing an organized sport in the United States. Until recently, organizations were limited by their size in the benefits packages available for their coaches and administrators; many would turn to the health insurance marketplace or join a spouse’s plan to ensure valuable health coverage. With the acquisition of Life Benefits Insurance, Players Health can ensure more sports organizations are able to offer attractive benefits package to recruit and retain the top talent for their athletes.

“By offering health insurance, we’re making coaching a financially viable path for people looking to give back to their communities,” said Tyrre Burks, founder and CEO of Players Health. “This creates new opportunities for an expanded pool of talented, caring coaches to help lead the next generation of youth athletes to their goals.”

Health package options from Players Health will include medical, dental and vision as well as an employee assistance program, employer sponsored life insurance, short- and long-term disability and 401k options. This new insurance policy offering builds upon the current solutions from Players Health including coaching and staff credentialing; education and training; abuse reporting and investigations; and a full suite of relevant insurance products including General Liability, Accident & Health, Professional Liability and Property, as well as claims reporting.

“This move bolsters our comprehensive suite of insurance products,” said Naveen Anand, Players Health group president. “Life Benefits’ three decades of insurance experience strengthens our team and mission of supporting the ever-growing amateur sports landscape with intuitive technology and solutions.”

Founded in 2002 in Dallas by the Hill Family, Life Benefits focuses on group health insurance plans and employee benefits packages. Specializing in custom plans to meet organizations’ individual benefit needs, they bring a powerful roster of affiliated carrier partners.

“Our history is rooted in supporting and providing white-glove service to small and medium-sized businesses seeking high-quality benefits for their valued employees,” said Ted Hill, founder and president of Life Benefits. “We’re honored that Players Health is continuing our mission by delivering custom benefit programs and to youth sports organizations, who historically are not afforded as rich of packages due to their size. Together, we are positioned to swiftly make positive changes to the industry.”

With athlete safety as a cornerstone, Players Health organization continually monitors trends and developments across games and the industry to adapt to the ever-changing needs tied to athlete’s safety. This acquisition comes on the heels of a recent $28 million fundraising effort led by SiriusPiont and Mastry Ventures, continuing the momentum for making sports accessible and safe for all.
